Details of Gumraah 》》》

"Gumraah(2023) stars Aditya Roy Kapoor in a double role. This thriller is a remake of the 2019 Tamil film “Thadam.” With a gripping premise and a talented cast including Ronit Roy and Mrunal Thakur, the movie falls short due to dull storytelling and uninteresting characters.

●    The film is a remake of Tamil film Thadam. The story is originally written by Magizh Thirumeni. Although the story is quite unusual, it fails on two counts. Firstly, there are too many coincidences (about the evidences against Arjun and Ronnie) to be true. This, of course, is to make it almost impossible for the investigating police officers to conclude who is the criminal. Secondly, the nail-biting excitement for the audience to know the identity of the killer is missing. On the whole, Gumraah will prove to be a non-starter.

●    Given his dual role, Aditya Roy Kapur is inevitably in every scene. The actor makes the most of the opportunity. Mrunal Thakur makes it through the film with a single expression that hovers between the deadpan and the bewildered. That about sums up Gumraah. The film’s mildly diverting generic drill is anything but exciting.

●  A remake of Tamil actor Arun Vijay’s Thadam, this one is also a scene-by-scene remake of the original. Is Gumraah worth a watch? Yes, if you have not seen the original. Despite the pace being unstable and the confusion the film creates, you might still enjoy it. However, if you have watched the original, this may not be your pick, unless you just want to savour Aditya Roy Kapur’s hotness on screen.

.

●  Given that it is a remake of Thadam, Gumraah not only imbibes the story of the original but also its flaws. If the forceful spoonfeeding, unnecessary detailing of the love story, and the songs were removed, Gumraah could have come across as a better watch. Bottom Line: Aditya Roy Kapur doubles up to shoulder a shoddily-made film but unfortunately, his efforts are not enough to keep you hooked from the start to the end.

●    An engaging plot, twists and turns and good storytelling make Gumraah worth a visit to the theatre. The motive behind the murder may not come as a big surprise but the suspense will keep you intrigued until the end.

●    While the story with solid twists and turns looks exciting, the film lacked the gripping and pacey screenplay, which would have taken Gumraah to another level. Also, the songs (though only a few) seem to be unnecessary as it never progresses the narrative. Despite its flaws, Gumraah is a decent entertainer with some thrilling elements.

●   The climax of the film is all about the revelation and verdict. There is no high-tension melodrama there thankfully. However, the catharsis is achieved in a particular manner and justice prevails.Gumraahcloses with case summaries of such crimes wherein two identical twins were accused but acquitted for lack of evidence in several countries. A knowledge-imparting disclaimer which cites the source of inspiration for the film. In all, Gumraah is a complete entertainer and a ‘paisa vasool’ film you could watch in theatres this weekend.

Gumraah won’t bore you, but it won’t keep you excited with what’s about to occur next. It’s a pattern seen lately in a lot of criminal versus law enforcement thrillers, that the police officers even with their technology and vast manpower, still remain one step behind the culprit, who has thought at least ten to twenty steps ahead. It doesn’t convince audiences nearly as well if the whole plot has to be explained to the audience in a ‘here’s what happened’ flashback.
